WIFS Portland Metro
DONATION DRIVE!
Stepping Stones
In practice of our chapter mission, WIFS Portland Metro strives to support women in a number of ways. This year's non-profit recipient to be celebrated and supported at our May event is Stepping Stones.
Stepping Stones provides women seeking recovery from addiction and reunification with their children from foster care the opportunity to transform their lives. Since opening in 2007, Stepping Stones has successfully reunited more than two-thirds of all participants with their children. Staff provides live-in house monitoring, mentoring, and residential supports including transportation to healthcare, treatment and community based recovery supports.
CODA is proud to announce the recent acquisition of a new home for Stepping Stones, our supported housing for women in recovery who are eligible for early reunification with their children. In the first three years, 88% of Stepping Stones' residents reunited with their children compared with 40% of women meeting the same criteria but not living at Stepping Stones.
Stepping Stones is celebrating its fourth birthday in its new house located on a four lot subdivision in the Aloha/Reedville area of Washington County; this house replaces leased houses in Tigard with a beautiful new building. Our goal is to raise $1,500,000 to build up to three more homes with similar configurations in a campus setting, which will substantially increase the number of women and children served. With funding for the first home complete, fundraising for the second building is underway. In addition to increasing Stepping Stones' capacity, the purchases will eliminate leasing costs and allow Stepping Stones to operate solely on current funding streams, ensuring its sustainability.
Support by the members and guests at WIFS May event will help provide needed home furnishing items for both homes. Donations of the following new items, gift cards from Target, or checks will be greatly appreciated.
Pots, Pans, Dishes, Glasses, Flatware, Kitchen knives, Twin sheet sets, Twin blankets, Crib sheets, Toddler bed sheets, Bath towels
Additionally, we are looking for volunteers to provide life skills workshops and/or mentoring on topics like budgeting, money management, and bank accounts.
